Roots Chelmsford Windrush Talk
The Windrush immigrants to the UK were faced with intolerance from some of the British population, although encouraged to settle and take up employment, many were denied access to this due to the colour of their skin.
In April 2018, the Windrush scandal broke; when it was discovered that despite living and working in the UK for decades they were in the country illegally due to the lack of official paperwork. Many people couldn’t provide the paperwork to prove their right to stay in the UK, either because they have never been given them or because the Government had destroyed their own copies of paperwork. We can only admire their resilience in their fight for justice.
We are delighted to invite Mr Tom Tobierre who has been through the Windrush Scandal to tell you his story. One of sadness but also one of courage.
With booked ticket, attend an optional tour of the exhibition with Papa D at 11.30am. Please meet in the Our Chelmsford room. Capacity in the room is limited but Papa D will repeat the tour if there is interest. You are welcome to then continue to explore the museum, the park or go to the cafe until the main talk starts at 2pm.
Refreshments will be available during the talk.
