Archaeology South-East Talk: The elite Iron Age burials of Little Waltham
Join us to discover more about a series of rich burials recently discovered near Chelmsford and find out what they tell us about elite society in Late Iron Age and Roman Essex.
During excavations to the north of the city, a substantial ditched enclosure containing a cremation cemetery dating to the early to mid 1st century AD was found. Amongst the more ordinary burials were a small number of larger, richly-furnished graves that belonged to members of the elite of the local Late Iron Age society. This talk with Angus Forshaw of Archaeology South-East explores the significance of these rich graves.
This event has been funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of securing the future of the Great Baddow Hoard at the Museum of Chelmsford. (NLHF Logo)
